Greenlight is a company on a mission to shine a light on the world of money for kids and parents.
The Greenlight card and app were purpose-built for families. Parents get the tools they need to manage their kids’ money. Kids get real-life lessons in earning, spending, saving, giving and investing.
Is there a minimum age?
We support kids and grownups of all ages. No minimum (or maximum) age here.
How much does it cost?
Greenlight plans start at $4.99 per month and include debit cards for up to five (5) kids.
Your first month is on us, and you can cancel at any time. See our Plans page for more.
Is this a debit or credit card?
Greenlight is a debit card for kids, not a credit card. Parents load money onto the card from their own Greenlight app. And because it’s a debit card, kids can’t spend what isn’t there. That’s a pretty valuable life lesson.
Where is the card accepted?
The Greenlight card can be used almost anywhere Mastercard is accepted, online and in-store. “Almost,” because our cardholders are kids, and we’ve put important guardrails in place. Greenlight also works internationally in 150+ other countries, with no foreign transaction fees. No need to let us know if you travel abroad — you’ll have enough to remember.
Does Greenlight offer investing?
Yes! Families on the Greenlight Max or Greenlight + Invest plans have access to our investing platform designed just for kids. Kids learn about the world of investing with their own Greenlight investor profiles while parents approve every trade. Families can research, buy and monitor real stocks and funds all from the Greenlight app.Learn more.
Do kids earn cash back with their Greenlight card?
Yes! Greenlight Max kids earn 1% Cash Back on purchases with their Greenlight card.* Cash Back gets deposited to their Savings — making it easy (and automatic!) to save money.
Does Greenlight offer interest?
No, but Greenlight offers a Greenlight Savings Reward, where families earn up to 2% on Savings.* With Greenlight Savings Reward, kids learn the power of compound growth and why it pays to save.
Is Greenlight safe?
Greenlight blocks ‘unsafe’ spending categories, sends real-time transaction notifications and gives parents flexible ATM and other spending controls. We also provide additional layers of protection to our families in the form of face or fingerprint recognition and the ability to turn your card on or off directly in the app.
Greenlight debit cards are FDIC-insured up to $250,000, and come with Mastercard’s Zero Liability Protection.
What do I need to sign up?
All we need to get you started is some basic information.
You should receive your Greenlight card 7-10 business days after ordering it. If you’d like it sooner, you can opt for expedited shipping at an additional cost.
How is Greenlight different from a traditional debit card?
Greenlight is bigger than a debit card, and it was built with families in mind.
Yes, it’s a debit card for kids, managed by parents. But it’s also a powerful mobile app that lets parents easily manage and see where, when and how much kids spend, while helping them learn to manage their money.
It’s three different accounts in one — Spend, Save and Give. A digital chore board. A saving-motivation machine. A set of flexible parental controls you won’t get from most banks. And a simple, clear view of your child’s financial world, complete with real-time transaction alerts. All in one app.
Greenlight lets parents:
Transfer money instantly to kids
Turn the card off via the app, if needed
Receive alerts whenever the card is used
Set store-level spend controls to help kids learn to budget
Automate allowance payments
Manage chores (and instantly reward a job well done)
You’ll find more about what you can do with Greenlight on our Details page.
Does Greenlight work with Apple Pay and Google Pay?
Yes! As soon as you sign up for Greenlight, your kids can add their Greenlight card details to Apple Pay or Google Pay* to tap and pay in an instant.
*Subject to Apple Pay and Google Pay age requirements.
