Halloween is a boo-tiful opportunity for kids and families to dress up and have some spooky fun, especially as a group. From pop culture trends to the latest blockbuster movies, we’ve rounded up awesome multi-character costumes for trick-or-treating together. If you're a group or family of three, try on these costume ideas for size.

Blockbuster movies and TV costumes

Beetlejuice 2

Whether you grew up with the original Beetlejuice or just now jumping on the ‘Beetlejuice 2’ Soul Train, this quirky fright flick is perfect for a group costume. Mix and match your favorite characters – undead or alive.

  1. Beetlejuice – Conjure the man himself with the iconic black and white striped suit, wild green hair, and ghoulish makeup.

  2. Lydia Deetz (and/or her daughter) – Think Victorian-inspired dresses, dark makeup, spiky black bangs, and a lot of teen angst.

  3. Shrunken head guy – So cute with the bulging eyes and big suit!

Wicked

Even before the movie premieres, buzz is huge for ‘Wicked,’ the 2024 film adaptation of the smash Broadway hit. Ariana Grande as the glittery Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as the green-hued Elphaba are already trending as favorite witch Halloween costumes. But ‘Wicked’ is ripe with delicious characters to embody.

  1. Glinda - The “good” witch stuns in a sparkly pink ballgown and diamond tiara.

  2. Elphaba - Go full “bad” witch with green face and black robe and witch hat.

  3. Madame Morrible - Shiz University’s headmistress rules with silver hair and moody, space-themed gowns that hint at her weather-controlling powers.

  4. Fiyero - A prince among men. Dress the part with a dandy embroidered jacket with tailcoats.

Inside Out 2

Riley’s emotions expand as she becomes a teenager. Have fun deciding who wants to play which mood and how to dress the parts!

  1. Anger - Dress in red from head to toe.

  2. Anxiety - Look frazzled with an orange striped shirt, spiraling glasses, and a wacky antennae headband.

  3. Joy - Yellow dress, bright and shiny blue hair.

  4. Disgust - Go for gross with everything green, including hair.

  5. Sadness - Feeling blue? Sadness shows it with blue hair, pale blue sweaters, and ho-hum pants and shoes.

Other emotional choices:

  1. Embarrassment

  2. Ennui

  3. Envy

Descendants 4: The Rise of Red

In the fourth installment of the Disney musical fantasy, the Descendants reunite at the original Merline Academy. Go as the parents (Cinderella and Red) or as the new generation:

  1. Red - The evil Queen of Hearts’ rebellious daughter puts a practical spin on her mother’s wicked red dresses with a black and red suit, black gloves, and fiery mane.

  2. Chloe - Cinderella’s daughter wears blue and silver to complement her vibrant aqua hair.

  3. Uliana - Channel Ursula’s younger sister with her signature pop-up collar and corseted dress with a teal and purple skirt.

  4. Bridget - The young Queen of Hearts has pink hair, a sweet pink dress, and hearts all over.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

  1. Aang - The Last Airbender; a pacifist monk on a quest with Katara and Sokka to understand the elements of water, earth, and fire.

  2. Katara - Waterbending Master; can cut through objects and “bloodbend” – control the water from someone else’s body.

  3. Sokka - Katara’s brother; leads through innovation with weapons, including his boomerang, machete, and a meteorite space sword.

Barbie

  1. Barbie - Go traditional pink like Margot Robbie’s Barbie, or choose from all the different incarnations of the world-famous doll, from career looks to glamorous evening wear.

  2. Ken - Ryan Gosling brought the movie version Ken to life. The smooth boyfriend’s main job is to “beach” and smile.

  3. Weird Barbie - Saturday Night Live comedian Kate McKinnon brought her to life. This one’s wide open for interpretation.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-verse

  1. Peter Parker - With an infinity of Spideys, the possibilities are endless. But the classic red-and-blue suit with web-slinging accessories is universally recognizable.

  2. Gwen Stacy - Spider-Woman’s white and pink suit makes for an easy, comfortable, and cool costume for flinging door-to-door.

  3. Miles Morales - The new-age Spider-Man has a black, gold, and red suit.

Super Mario Bros.

Power up with a super-cute trio of video game characters from Mario Bros. and Mario Kart. Choose your combo of Luigi, Mario, and Princess Peach. Any character works, but little ones might especially enjoy being a mini Toad or Yoshi.

  1. Mario - The red plumber boasts a signature mustache, red cap, and overalls.

  2. Princess Peach - Save the elegant princess in her pink dress and crown.

  3. Luigi - Mario’s green-clad brother, complete with a green hat and overalls.

For older kids

Deadpool and Wolverine

  1. Deadpool (aka Wade Wilson) - Kind of like the reverse Spider-Man, Deadpool gets a red and black suit with swords for a backpack.

  2. Wolverine - Partner up with Deadpool against the baddies. Yellow suit and “claws.”

  3. Cassandra Nova - Professor X’s evil twin is the leader of The Void and hates mutants with a (bald-headed) passion.

  4. Dogpool - Got pets? This is the perfect costume for a trio of “humans” and one canine sidekick.

Only Murders in the Building

The trio of crime-fighting podcasters return to TV for a fourth season of creepy investigations, just in time to dress up in a cozy mystery of your own.

  1. Mabel Mora (played by Selena Gomez) - This one’s for the fashionista in your family. Mabel always dresses to kill, from houndstooth skirts to vibrant faux fur coats.

  2. Charles-Haden Savage (played by Steve Martin) - The retired “Brazzos” TV star is always ready for his next role, often in a bowler hat and plaid jacket.

  3. Oliver Putnam (played by Martin Short) - The flamboyant stage director has a fresh scarf for every dramatic moment.

Classic Halloween costumes for a family of 3

1. The Incredibles™

Dress up as the iconic superhero family from Disney's "The Incredibles." Parents could be Elastigirl, Mr. Incredible, or even Edna Mode. Kids could be Dash, Jack-Jack, or Violet Parr.

2. The Wizard of Oz™

This classic movie offers plenty of costume options for a family of three, including Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man or the Cowardly Lion. It doesn’t have to be a nuclear family, though. Dressing up like The Good Witch and The Bad Witch is fun too!

3. The Flintstones™

Head back to the Stone Age with these easily recognizable costumes. Parents can be Fred and Wilma; kids could be Pebbles or Bamm-Bamm. Family of three Halloween costumes can easily be upgraded to a family of up to seven with the addition of Barney, Betty, Dino, and Baby Puss.

4. Toy Story™

With so many beloved characters from this franchise, there's a costume for everyone. Go as Jessie, Woody, and Buzz Lightyear. Or match it up and go as a trio of googly-eyed aliens. “You have been chosen!”

5. The Addams Family™

Many kids love to experiment with their dark sides, and The Addams Family is the perfect opportunity to do it without being too scary. Parents can be Gomez and Morticia, and kids can channel Wednesday or Pugsley.

6. The Three Little Pigs™

This is a cute and easy costume idea for a family of three. Parents could be Grandma or the Big Bad Wolf. Little ones could be the piglets. Or, mix it up and switch!

7. Alice in Wonderland™

Take your family on an adventure to Wonderland with these whimsical costumes. Dress in your best blue dress as Alice, go wacky with a velvet top hat as the Mad Hatter, and someone has to be the Cheshire Cat!

8. The Simpsons™

For a cartoon-inspired costume idea, dress up as America's favorite yellow family. Parents can be the obvious choices of Marge and Homer, while kids can play Bart, Lisa, or Baby Maggie. If you want to branch out, try Krusty the Clown, Milhouse, or Sideshow Bob.

9. Minions™

These lovable characters from "Despicable Me" make for a fun and easy family costume. Parents can be Gru and Lucy, with kids going as minions. Or everyone can be Minions!

10. Traffic stop

This one’s sure to stop traffic. Choose your favorite street signs and dress up as a traffic light, a stop sign, a car, a police officer, or a crossing guard.

11. Solar system

One parent can dress as the sun, the other as the earth, and the child as the moon (or let your child be the sun you revolve around!). You can even add stars and planets to your costumes for extra creativity.

12. Garden theme

Get the kids to help decorate! There are so many cute accessories with a garden theme. One person can dress as a garden gnome, the other as a flower, bumblebee, or butterfly.

13. Three-part pizza

A fun and “delicious” costume idea where each family member dresses as a part of a pizza. One parent can be the crust, the other the sauce and cheese, and the child could be a favorite topping. Got a dog? Maybe that’s your pup-peroni!

Halloween is a great time to show off your family's creativity and bond over a shared love for dressing up. With these costume ideas, you can have a spooktacular time together without breaking your holiday season budget
