Organizing 101: How to tackle a messy junk drawer
Share via
We all have that one drawer in our homes where we toss random items that don't have a designated home. It's often referred to as the "junk drawer" and can quickly become a cluttered mess. If you're nodding your head in agreement, it may be time to tackle that messy space and get it organized. Here's how.
1. Empty the drawer
The first step to organizing a junk drawer is to empty its contents onto a flat surface. Now you can see exactly what you have and determine which items are essential and which can be discarded or relocated.
2. Group similar items together
As you go through the items in your junk drawer, separate them into categories such as office supplies, tools, or miscellaneous items. This will make it easier to find a designated spot for each group.
3. Use dividers or containers
To keep things organized and prevent them from getting jumbled together again, use dividers or small containers within the drawer. This way, you can group similar items together and make it easier to find what you need.
4. Label containers
If you're using containers or dividers, consider labeling them with the category of items they hold. This will save time in the future and prevent the drawer from becoming cluttered again.
5. Declutter regularly
The key to maintaining an organized junk drawer is to clean it out regularly. Set a reminder every few months to go through the drawer and discard any unnecessary items or relocate them to their designated spot in your home.
Organizing a junk drawer may seem like a daunting task, but with these tips, you'll have it decluttered and organized in no time!
