Key takeaways
Greenlight does not support check or mobile check deposits.
You can still deposit your check into a bank and transfer the money to Greenlight.
Other funding options include direct deposit, transfers from a parent’s account, and Pay Link.
Greenlight’s debit card for kids and money management app is a great tool for parents to manage and monitor their child’s money while giving them a chance to develop their financial literacy skills firsthand.
But, what if your child receives a check? Can they deposit it directly into Greenlight? Below, we’ll break down whether you can deposit a check on Greenlight as well as other options for funding your child’s Greenlight account.
Does Greenlight support mobile check deposit?
No, Greenlight doesn’t offer mobile check deposits or accept paper checks. This includes personal checks, paychecks, or any checks mailed to your child.
However, there are several ways to move the money to your Greenlight wallet.
How to get check funds into your Greenlight wallet
If you have a check, and you’re looking to move that money into your child’s Greenlight wallet, here’s how you can do it:
Endorse the check. Follow your bank’s endorsement requirements when signing the check.
Deposit the check into a traditional bank account. Use your personal account at your bank or credit union, either by mobile deposit or in person.
Transfer funds to Greenlight. Tap “Add $” in the app, select the amount you want to add, then tap “Add” and your funds will be transferred. You will see the funds when they’re available, usually instantly, but it can sometimes take three to four days for them to be available.
Other ways to fund a Greenlight wallet
Beyond depositing a check into a bank account and transferring the funds, here are a few other ways you can move money to your Greenlight wallet:
Direct deposit. Teens can receive their paychecks directly into their Greenlight account with direct deposit.
Allowance and chore payments. Parents can assign chores or one-off tasks and schedule payments to be sent out when they’re completed.
Autofunding. You can automate payments to your child’s Greenlight account with one of two settings: when their account drops to a set amount or on the first of each month.
Pay link. In addition to being able to send money to your child directly from your Parent app, your child gets a pay link that can be shared with friends or family, allowing them to send money directly to your child.
Both you and your kids download the Greenlight app — with tailored experiences. They check off chores, you automate allowance. They spend wisely, you set flexible controls. They build healthy financial habits, and you cheer them on.
Multiple ways to move money
While Greenlight doesn’t support check deposits, getting those funds into your child’s wallet is easy with the right steps. From bank transfers to direct deposit and Pay Link, Greenlight gives families flexibility to fund their accounts, so you can continue to help your kids develop real-world money skills.
